Happy Friday Families!
I hope you are all getting ready for next weeks festivities! We are so excited for our gingerbread houses, the holiday sing-a-long, and our winter party! Thank you for all the class donations to make these fun things happen!! Writing: This week in writing students turned in their first non-fiction books! Many students wrote about different animals they learned about in our habitats unit! Each student that turned in a story had the opportunity to read it to the class where we saw their detailed illustrations and learned key facts! Reading: Our class continued our study of non-fiction books in reading today. We took a deeper look on each page to find interesting parts, learn new facts, and shared new learning with a partner. To end the week, we used our writer's eyes to find details published authors use to make their stories more interesting! Math: During math this week, our class continued to focus on our understanding of solving subtraction problems where we take 9 from a teen number. Each student created a 5-group row to show their thinking and take away 9 from the story problem. By the end of the week, everyone agreed that they have mastered this strategy! Social Studies: This week our class started learning about Our World! We started this new unit by reading and learning about maps. Together we located our continent, country, state, and city on the map! Our class then thought of some questions we have about North America that we would like to discover as we study this continent. Some students wondered how many people live in North America and what kind of animals there are. Art: We had a wonderful art lesson this week thanks to one of our art docents, Mr. Kevin! Our class created their first glass artwork and we are all excited to see how they turn out! Thank you to Mr. Jerred, Mrs. Susan, and Mrs. Tarena for all your help! |
