Happy Friday Families! Our class continues to excel in becoming life-long learners! We had a lot of fun activities this week with an art docent lesson, visiting our buddies, and getting our class picture taken!
Writing: Students completed and turned in their first Opinion stories this week! Each story was composed with reasoning for their opinion, plausible disagreements, and quotes from their peers! Many students have enjoyed writing their own opinions and next week we will start looking at how people write reviews. Reading: This week in reading we learned how important it is to slow down our reading to really understand what is happening in our story. Together we talked about how understanding the story line will also help us when we come across new words. We can ask ourselves What kind of word would make sense here? or What kind of word would go next? We practiced slowing down our reading to really comprehend what was happening. Math: We have been having so much fun measuring in class! We have used many different math tools such as centimeter cubes. paper clips, and string. Each student measured different items in the class and recorded their measurements. We finished the week by learning about graphing! Science: Our class has started our new unit in science: Motion! Together we learned what motion meant (moving from one place to another) and observed motion out on the playground. We then talked about the different kinds of motion like straight, zigzag, and curved. Our class then experimented with motion using bouncy balls! March is packed with different in-school and after school activities so please be sure to check our website and calendar! Have a great weekend! Happy Friday Families!
We survived another crazy weather week! I hope the rain stops soon! Nevertheless, we had a great week of learning! Writing: Students finished their last informational book in writing this week! Each student worked hard to start and finish an entire story using all they have learned through our unit of writing. It was wonderful to see students add facts to their writing, use zoom in pictures to add details, and check their conventions. Our next unit will focus on opinion writing! Reading: This week we have been looking at long-vowel words! A long-vowel word is when the vowel says its name within the word like game, boat, and time. We practiced finding long-vowel words in our books and breezed through them without a problem! Math: We completed our second math unit this week!! Each student did an amazing job putting their brains to the test and completing their math test to finish the unit. We then started our third math unit which will cover measurements! Thank you to those of you who donated to our class auction basket!! I hope you all have a wonderful, dry weekend! :) |
