Happy Friday Families! This week was so exciting with our field trip to the zoo! Each student had so much fun exploring the zoo and seeing all the different animals. A special thank you to all of our amazing chaperones who helped make the field trip possible!
Writing: This week our class brought our stories to life! We added movement and speech bubbles to our characters, told our stories step-by-step, and brought our feelings and words out from our characters! Many students have finished more books! Reading: During reading this week our class focused on reading sight words, checking all parts of a word when trying to read it, and looking at word blends. We studied the blends -ch, -th, and -sh and how they make one sound together. As a class we wrote down different words with those blends in them. Math: Our class continued adding strategies to our math tool boxes by creating our own subtraction story problems and making picture number bonds. Each student uses their own strategies to solve the problems and it is so great to hear them share their thinking in front of the class during our Brain Puzzles! Science: We are wrapping up our Habitats and Living/Non-Living things in science. Each student continued putting entries into their science journals or different animals they saw at the zoo, drew diagrams of a plants roots, and studied how plants soak up water. Next week we will start our first Social Studies unit! Thank you for all of your support! I can't wait to see you all on Thursday for our Black and Orange Party! Even if you did not sign up as a volunteer, you are welcome to come join! Have a great weekend! Happy Friday Families! We braved the rain this week and still had a lot of fun learning! We are hoping the rain will take a break next week for our field trip to the zoo! Rain or shine we will be there!
Writing: Students worked on finishing up their stories and using a writing partner to give positive feedback on their stories. I was so proud of each student for giving kind tips on how to improve each others' stories! At the end of the week, some students turned in their first story and shared it with the class! Reading: During reading this week, students started rereading their books to read with expression. Together we practiced make our voices loud when a character was excited, reading quickly when our characters were racing, and talking quietly when our characters were sad or whispering! Math: This week our class started learning about subtraction problems! Students practiced turning an addition sentence into a subtraction sentence by "plopping" the total in the front of their subtraction problem. Each student then finished by writing the missing parts. Science: We continued learning about living and non-living things this week by creating diagrams of a cricket and fish. We then talked about another living thing: plants! Students talked about plants and how they start growing. Together we talked about seed dispersal and found it funny how some seeds are "free-riders" who travel along on animals fur! Next week is our field trip! Please remember to wear good walking shoes and a rain jacket! Lunches should be in a disposable sack. If you have any questions, please let me know! Have a great weekend! Happy Friday Families!
I hope to see you all at the dance tonight! This week has been filled with lots of fun, especially with our class earning an extra recess for filling their pompom jar! Writing: This week we focused on writing small moment stories. Students picked one small story to write about. We practiced thinking of an idea, planning our writing, and revising! Each student seemed really excited to write their own small moments! Reading: During reading we focused on being a good reading partner. We practiced helping each other solve tricky words, gave book recommendations, and talked about our favorite books. Our class even got up to 15 minutes of stamina reading! Math: In math this week, we looked closely at patterns within an addition chart. Many students figured out that each column added a specific number such as +0, +1, +2 etc. We also learned that the addend doesn't change when you add 0! Science: We continued learning about living and non-living things this week by examining leaves and snails! Students put a leaf rubbing into their science journal and labeling the different parts of the leaf. To finish the week, we observed snails and drew our own Snail diagrams in our science journals! Art: Our class had our first Art Docent lesson from Mr. Charap and Mrs. Hughes! We loved learning about colors and creating our own soaring eagles! Each student worked hard to create their beautiful pictures! Thank you for the art lesson! I hope you all have a great weekend and remember, NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY!! Happy Friday Families!
We have been very busy this week and enjoying all the crazy fall weather we have been having. It was so nice to see so many dads at Donuts with Dads! Writing: This week in writing we allowed our creativity to shine by creating our own writing pieces! Some students wrote songs, poems, fictional stories, and non-fiction stories! While each student wrote their own piece this week, we all focused on our good writing habits such as capitals at the beginning of each sentence, space between our words, punctuation, and having a beginning and end to our writing. Reading: During reading we continued to use our good habits for solving hard words! Together we practiced double checking a word to make sure it makes sense with the story and it sounds right. We also talked about not giving up on hard words! To end the week, we focused on understanding what is happening in the stories we read in addition to learning new words. Math: Our class started learning about true number sentences this week! We learned that a true number sentence is when both sides of the equal sign are the same number. To finish the week, we used a picture of trees and flowers to write addition sentences in 4 different ways! Science: Before the rain arrived our class managed to go on our school trail for a wild walk! Together we observed all the different living and non-living things on the trail such as birds, spiders, leaves, rocks, and mushrooms! To finish the week, we talked about what makes a thing living and non-living. I hope you all have a great weekend and if you're going to Salmon Days I might see you there! :) |
